When Does Voter Fraud Occur?

In this project, statistics about the actual occurrence of voter fraud in the United States and the differences between voter fraud and electoral fraud are examined. The rare occurrence of voter fraud in the U.S. is then compared to other countries where voter fraud does occur, specifically in Nicaragua, where intimidation, vote buying, and ballot box stuffing are common. Ultimately, it seems that individuals represent little threat to the electoral process in the United States, as in other countries, but the state or other large governing forces can impact an election with fraud.
Aidan Thomason is a junior international studies and history major at the University of South Carolina. She wants to work on increasing education access in refugee and displacement situations. At UofSC, she is the chairperson of the Seeking Refuge podcast, and she is currently interning with USAID researching book access in developing countries.
